Board Member Biographies
Gail Rappolt
Gail Rappolt is currently a coach/facilitator working in her own
consulting firm. Her work centres on helping people find their path,
whether that is in the work, personal, or spiritual parts of their lives.
Gail uses the Myers Briggs Type Instrument and other learning tools as the
basis of her work with individuals and groups, both in her private work
and in her work as a coach with the Niagara Institute. Her own current
area of growth and learning is spirituality. Gail has lived and worked in
Hamilton for many years. Prior to her current work, she was a teacher,
principal and supervisory officer with the Hamilton Board of Education.
She is involved in a variety of peace and justice groups in the Hamilton
community and is an active member of the First Unitarian Church of
Hamilton. Gail has a hobby photography business and spends much of her
leisure time with nieces and nephews in a variety of interesting and
creative activities.
Anne Pearson
Anne M. Pearson is an adjunct professor of religious studies at the
University of Waterloo and McMaster University, specializing in Hinduism.
She is a trained mediator and facilitator, is on the board of Community
Dispute Resolution Services Hamilton, a member of the Spiritual Assembly
of the Baha'is of Hamilton, co-chair of the Hamilton Interfaith Group and
is involved with the Strengthening Hamilton's Community Initiative. She
lives in Dundas.
Carolann Fernandes
Carolann Fernandes is a retired Vice Principal of the
Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. She currently is the
Vice President of the United Nations Association in Canada, Hamilton Branch and
sits on the Indo-Canadian Networking Council as well as the Anti-Racist
Multicultural Educators Network of Ontario (AMENO). She is the Past
President of the Hamilton Mundialization Committee and Past Chair of the
Hamilton World Citizenship Award. She was also previously a member of the
Children’s International Learning Centre and the Hamilton Wentworth
Council on Police Race and Community Relations. She specializes in the
areas of special education, the blind and anti-racism.
Brian Reid
Brian Reid has been president of the United Nations Association in
Canada, Hamilton Branch since 1994. Brian retired as a Professor in the
Building and Construction Sciences at Mohawk College in 1997, a position
he held for 26 years. At the college, he served as an observer at the
Board of Governors and as the editor of the faculty union’s newsletter,
the EXAMINER. Brian has been involved with environmental, heritage and
peace groups for many years. He has served on the Board of Directors of the
Dundas Heritage Association for over 30 years, has worked with the
non-smoker’s rights movement since 1975, and has been part of peace
and mundialization organizations for many years.
Ray Cunnington
Since coming to Canada from England in 1953, Ray Cunnington has had
many
careers. He has worked in the film industry; been an executive in an
advertising agency; and for many years was a departmental chairman at an
Ontario Community College. Since retirement, he has devoted himself to
social
issues related to non-violence, justice and peace.
